When I get novocaine (at the dentist), my heart races very rapidly. Is this a sign of an adverse reaction?

And it's not due to nerves b/c I'm very relaxed before the novocaine is injected into my mouth. It's just a few minutes after it's injected I feel my heart start racing to the point where I'm breathing very quickly.
